Robbie Katter MP in Charters Towers

Katter’s Australian Party Leader Robbie Katter has retained the seat of Traeger in a landslide victory following intense media coverage of the MPs defence of unborn babies.

Mr Katter dominated over the other candidates with over 50% of the first preference vote at the time of writing with issues such as crime, the cost of living, and the dignity of babies on the table.

Mr Katter said in an exclusive interview with Sumpton’s Gold Rush Gazette that he was excited to once again fight for rural Queenslanders in Brisbane.

“It's something more than words can express to represent an area you grew up in and you see is being disadvantaged,” Mr Katter said.

“And being able to go down and fight for them in Brisbane against the major parties.

“That runs pretty deep and leaves a special sort of feeling inside me.”

Mr Katter also expressed his disappointment for how rhetoric toward the end of the election cycle heated up.

“It ended up a pretty dirty campaign and a lot of lies being told,” he said.

“And I didn't really appreciate that.

“We just put our best foot forward.

“We really tried hard to say, life didn't have to just be about the two major parties in Brisbane.

“I think that message was lost in the end.”

Katter’s Australian Party has retained 3 seats in the Queensland election at the time of writing, with a considerable upswing in votes for Hitchinbrook’s Nick Dametto.
