Founder of Sumpton’s Gold Rush Gazette, Daniel Sumpton has expressed his joy in the Charters Towers newspaper becoming free with this edition onwards.

While the online subscription still operates as normal, the physical version of the Charters Towers newspaper, Sumpton’s Gold Rush Gazette is entirely free from newsagents and select retailers.

Mr Sumpton, who has enjoyed watching his platform grow from a small magazine to the popular newspaper it has become, said that he couldn’t be happier that locals are getting the news for free.

“We worked so hard to get to this point,” he said.

“The paper has continued to expand constantly, I have enjoyed watching it grow.

“More locals and out-of-towners become more familiar with Sumpton’s Gold Rush Gazette all the time.

Mr. Sumpton also thanked the locals who supported the publication over the years.

“It’s crazy to think we have been going at this and working hard to give locals the news for over two years independently.

“Thank you to everyone who has kept us in business this long.

“You are good people who want to read legitimate news.

“Things will only get better.”
